A CEO gets charged at The Battery Show

I had the pleasure of attending The Battery Show earlier this month and I came away with one clear reaction: it is an arms race.

Electric vehicles are red hot in the automotive market. Cadillac’s 2023 LYRIQ Debut Edition sold out in just over 10 minutes after General Motors opened reservations, Ford’s F150 Lightning electric pickup has now 130,000 reservations, and the First Edition Volkswagen ID.4 Sold Out Within 8 Hours in the U.S.

There is no doubt the automotive industry, and its customers, have embraced electric. However, the success of EVs, and any industry that relies on rechargeable batteries for that matter, hinges on the battery. And automotive manufacturers are racing to find ground-breaking technology to further enhance batteries.

While walking the exhibitor hall, it became very apparent that battery companies are trying to answer the call to develop the best battery. The modern-day Rubik’s cube everyone is trying to solve – except instead of colors it is battery density, cycles, and charging time.

Battery companies are not just trying to develop the next generation of a lithium-ion battery, they are attempting to leapfrog multiple generations by using alternative battery chemistries like graphene, sodium, and silicon – and this is where The Coretec Group’s Cyclohexasilane (CHS) may just be the game-changer they are looking for. Our CHS’s unique liquid state enables a new type of silicon anode fabrication has the potential to lead to tremendous improvements in charge-discharge cycle lifetime, increased energy density, and high throughput fabrication which is currently being evaluated by The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in the creation of silicon anodes. We look forward to issuing updates from this research and hope it will lead to major advancements in battery technology, from which EVs will greatly benefit.

The depth and breadth of the innovations at The Battery Show were astonishing. There is no doubt the industry will experience major innovations in battery technologies soon. The battery arms race is happening, and this is one we will all gain from. It is an exciting time, and we are excited to be part of it.
